Steps taken to update railway system: Sujan

News Report: Railways Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujon has stated that steps have been taken to modernise the railway system - in order to end current mismanagement and resolve irregularities in the railway service. He also vowed to make the sector more service-oriented and pro-people. "Our mission and vision is to take railways further ahead… take it closer to people," Sujan said while speaking at a views-exchange meeting with railway station masters and staffs at conference room of Railway Bhaban in the capital on Friday morning. Among others, railway secretary Mofazzal Hossen and director general Shamsuzzaman were present in the function. Emphasising the importance of the railway system, the minister said: "Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stressed the importance of building an integrated communication system including rail, water and airways, so that people are less dependent on roads. The minister said he would take forward the mega projects as those are part of the vision the prime minister has already set. "We want to help her [achieve that vision]," he added. About the railways incurring loss on a regular basis, the minister said he wants to make the sector profitable, and sought suggestions in this regard from all. Besides expanding internal railway tracks, rail connectivity with neighbouring countries will be improved, he said, adding that he would take steps to increase manpower of railway.
