Stop plying unfit vehicles: Quader

NARAYANGANJ, Aug 28: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today urged transport owners and workers not to ply unfit vehicles on the roads, reports BSS. "Plying unfit transports is responsible for creating traffic tailback on the roads, Ö not the problems of roads," the minister told journalists after inspecting the Flyover Construction Work at Vulta of Rupganj here. The minister also held a meeting with the executive engineers of Dhaka, Sylhet and Naraynganj areas asking them to ensure the roads functional when people start travelling to rural areas to spend Eid holiday with near and dear ones. He added necessary steps have been taken to ensure a hassle-free Eid journey. Noting that there is no traffic congestion reportedly in the highway but some motorized vehicles without fitness certificates create problems on the roads, Quader categorically urged the transport owners and workers not come out on the streets with those unfit vehicles ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. He hoped that the Eid journey would be more comfortable this year as the officials concerned were also given instructions to ensure hassle-free journey for home-bound people. Replying to a query on cattle market sites, the minister said, "The Prime Minister Office (PMO) has already issued strict directives to respective district administration, police and the roads and highways division to ensure all-out support for passengers' smooth Eid-journey and not to compromise with any political pressure in this connection." Awami League lawmaker Gazi Gulam Dastagir, Bir Protik, additional engineer of RHW Abdus Sabur and Dhaka divisional superintendent engineer Sabuj Uddin, among others, accompanied the minister.
