RAJSHAHI, August 28: More impetus is needed to development of entrepreneurship particularly women through small and medium enterprises (SME) financing to accelerate the economy at both rural] and urban areas, reports BSS. Field level bankers have a vital role to promote and explore the promising sector. Some senior bankers made this observation while addressing the closing and certificate-giving ceremony of a five-day training course here on Friday. Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) organized the training on 'SME Financing and Entrepreneurship Develo-pment' in its training institute for 30 mid-level officers. General Manager (Administration) Khan-daker Golam Mostofa and General Manager (Audit, Accounts and Recovery) Younus Ali addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with institute principal Ataur Rahman in the chair. Faculty Members Md Arifuzzaman and SM Ahsan Ullah also spoke on the occasion. Golam Mostofa said the SME sector can play an effective role to economic progress, employment generation and poverty reduction. If the SMEs are properly financed, the nation would be benefited. He asked the training people to expedite the RAKUB's SME credit program through intensifying motivational, awareness building and monitoring activities to make the program a success. Main thrust of the loan scheme is to create an intensive investment scope for the agro-based SMEs in the light of the government industrial policy and for supplementing the government's efforts to attain food security and economic emancipation. Various business fields especially software, agro-processing and its business, agriculture plantation, fisheries, poultry, tissue culture, leather goods, health service and diagnostic centers and education services have been selected for investment.
