62,340 saplings planted in pry schools in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, August 28: The teachers and employees of 9,071 primary schools and officials of the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) planted 62,340 saplings in all eight districts under Rangpur division on Sunday, reports BSS. The saplings of fruit bearing, woody, flower and medicinal plants were planted in all primary school and primary education office premises in a hour between 12 noon and 1 pm as part of the nationwide tree plantation campaign undertaken by the DPE. "The saplings were planted to inspire young students in tree plantation and make the primary school premises green," said Divisional Deputy Director of the DPE Md Mahbub Elahi at launching ceremony of the campaign at his office ground in the city. Mahbub Elahi formally inaugurated the tree plantation campaign by planting saplings in his office premises as the chief guest in presence of the divisional and district level officials of the DPE. With Rangpur District Primary Education Officer Shahidul Islam in the chair, Assistant Director at divisional office of the DPE Sirajul Islam addressed the function as the special guest. In his speech, Mahbub Elahi said officials of the District and Upazila Primary Education Officers, teachers and employees of all 9,071 primary schools planted at least one sapling in between 12 noon and 1 pm inside their respective campuses. Encouraging teachers, employees and young students in tree plantation, he called upon everybody to plant at least three saplings annually saying that the better deeds of present time would leave a better and habitable planet for the future generations. "Tree plantation is the most effective way to create an eco-friendly green nature and mitigate adverse impacts of climate change in bringing environmental equilibrium as well as economic development," Mahbub Elahi added. Another report adds: A total of 14,416 saplings of different kinds of trees were planted at the campuses of schools, offices and institutes of the district Sunday at the directives of the Directorate of primary education (DPE). Director general (DG) of DPE Dr. M. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal has decided to plant at least 4 lakh saplings of woody, fruit bearing and medicinal trees at the campuses of primary schools, offices and institutes across the country. The objectives of the tree plantation were to maintain the ecological balance of the country, enhancing the beauty of the school and office campuses and inspiring the students, the teachers and the officials, and the employees to plant more trees to get a good environment. Of the total plantations, 2711 saplings were planted in Sadar upazila, 2,222 in Gobindaganj upazila, 2,112 in Palashbari upazila, 1,189 in Fulchhari upazila, 1,895 in Sadullapur upazila, 1,572 in Shaghata upazila and 2,695 in Sundarganj upazila, said an official of the DPE. Deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah formally inaugurated the tree plantation programme on the premises of Bonarpara Ideal Govt. Primary School under Shaghata upazila on Sunday as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, deputy speaker urged all to plant saplings of different trees on the surroundings of the houses, roadsides, and open spaces and to take care like their own children to get good return from the trees in future. He also thanked the DG of the DPE for adopting the innovative ideas and its implementation by officials, teachers and staff working at schools, offices and institutions of the country. UNO Uzzal Kumar Ghos, district primary education officer Aminul Islam Mondal, upazila primary education officer Azizul Islam, assistant upazila education officer Poritosh Chandra Sarker and political leaders and journalists were present on the inaugural ceremony.
