Shakib in superb form against Oz

World number one all-rounder across all formats of cricket Shakib Al Hasan displayed a superb form in both batting and bowling at the halfway mark of the 1st Test against Australia at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, reports UNB. To make his 50th Test memorable, Shakib captured five Aussie wickets with ball in the first innings after scoring a half century for the hosts in their first innings while batting. This is his 16th five-for in an innings in his Test career. The left hander earned the feat dismissing Aussie last wicket Josh Hazlewood on the 2nd day of the Test when they finished on 217 for all in 74.5 overs in the 1st innings to concede a 43-run lead to Bangladesh. Shakib started the series hammering his 22nd Test fifty as he scored team highest 84 runs in the Tigers’ 260 runs in the first innings on Day-1 on Sunday. Earlier on Thursday, Shakib expressed his hope to clinch the two-match Test series against the visitors. “Our expectation is to win the two Tests,” he had said while speaking at a press conference in Mirpur. The all-rounder who made his Test debut in May 2007 has so far played 49 matches before this Test against Australia. On the other hand, Australian captain Steve Smith, who made his debut in 2010, has already played 54 Test matches. Before his 50th Test match, Shakib scored 3,479 runs at an average of 40.92 in 92 innings featuring five centuries and 21 half centuries. With the ball, Shakib captured 176 wickets at an average of 33.04 with the best figure of 7/36 in an innings. He captured five wickets in a Test innings thrice against Zimbabwe (In October-November 2014), twice each against England (In June 2010 and October 2016), South Africa (in November 2008), Sri Lanka (in December 2008 and February 2014), New Zealand (In October 2008 and October 2013) and the West Indies (in July 2009 and October 2011) while once each against India and Pakistan in January 2010 and December 2011 respectively.
