Field day on HY mustard held in Jamalpur

Our Correspondent JAMALPUR, Feb 13: A field day on highyielding mustard BARI-14 was held in Jamalpur Sadar upazila recently. Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur, under Bangladesh Oil-seed and pulse crops research and development project arranged the field day at Joyrampur village in Sharifpur union of the upazila. Director of Bangladesh Oil-seed and pulse crops research and development project Dr Md Abdul Latif Akanda was present the programme as chief guest with Chief Scientific Officer, RARS, Jamalpur, Dr Md Tariqul Islam in the chair. The chief guest said BARI-14 is a high yielding and short duration variety and farmers can get extra profit by cultivating BARI-14 between the time of Aman and Barro. A farmer can get 1400 to 1600 kilogram mustard from one hectares of land from 75 to 80 days, he added. Abdul Latif also said the government is implementing various programmes to attain self reliant in oil production. He urged the farmers to cultivate BARI-14 mustard for getting more profit. Principal scientific officer of RARS Dr Md Manjurul Kadir, deputy director of BADC Md Reazul Islam Tutul, training officer of Department of Agricultural Extension Dr Md Hazrat Ali, Jamalpur Sadar upazila agriculture officer Sakhawat Hossain and mustard farmer Mozammel Haque spoke at the meeting. Earlier, the agriculture experts visited the BARI-14 mustard field in the village.
