Stock markets nosedive again

News Report Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Tuesday closed with further downbeat maintaining the trend of previous day. The broad index, DSEX closed at 4697.35 points with a loss of 37.24 points or 0.78 per cent. Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah index, DSES also went down by 11.79 and 7.04 to settle at 1617.24 and 1060.70 respectively. On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 125,338 trades were executed in Tuesday’s trading session with a trading volume of 160.82 million securities. Loses took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 349 issues traded, 118 securities gained price while 199 declined and 32 remained unchanged. The top 10 gainers were Zaheen Spinning, Miracle Industries, Matin Spinning, Paramount Insurance, Sinobangla Industries, Metro Spinning, Sonarbangla Insurance, Northern Insurance, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh and Tosrifa Industries. LafargeHolcim Bangladesh topped the turnover chart followed by Sonarbangla Insurance, Stylecraft, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Sinobangla Industries, United Finance, Fortune Shoes, Paramount Insurance, Purabi General Insurance and SK Trims. The top 10 losers were Samorita Hospital, Progressive Life Insurance, Family Tex, Meghna Cement, Premier Cement, Zaheen Tex, Jute Spinners, Golden Son, AIBL First Islami Mutual Fund and CNA Tex. On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed at red maintaining trend of the previous day. CSCX and CASPI declined by 64.84 points and 107.27 points to stand at 8685.67 points and 14305.30 points respectively. At CSE, a total of 9,525,309 shares and mutual fund of 237 companies were traded, of which 78 issues advanced while 127 declined and 32 issues remained unchanged. On Monday, DSE also closed with downbeat from the gaining streak of previous five consecutive sessions. The broad index, DSEX closed at 4734.59 points on Monday with a loss of 24.21 points or 0.50 per cent. Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah index, DSES also went down by 15.78 points and 9.87 to settle at 1629.04 and 1067.75 respectively. On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 137,833 trades were executed in Monday’s trading session with a trading volume of 228.59 million securities. Loser took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 346 issues traded, 124 securities gained price while 194 declined and 28 remained unchanged. The top 10 gainers were Islami Bank, Paramount Insurance, Daffodil Computers, Al Arafah Islami Bank, Stylecraft, Silco Pharma, Wata Chemical, Family Tex, Rupali Life Insurance and Prime Insurance. LafargeHolcim Bangladesh topped the turnover chart followed by Premier Bank, Paramount Insurance, IFIC Bank, Square Pharma, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Fortune Shoes, National Tubes, Exim Bank and City Bank. The top 10 losers were Makson Spinning, Deshbondhu Polymer, Selvo Chemical, Premier Leasing, Meghna Petroleum, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Metro Spinning, Legacy Footwear, First Finance and Fareast Knitting. On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed at red from the winning streak of the previous day. CSCX and CASPI declined up by 31.59 points and 48.11 to stand at 8750.51 and 14412.57 respectively. At CSE, a total of 11,641,567 shares and mutual fund of 241 companies were traded, of which 93 issues advanced while 122 declined and 26 issues remained unchanged. On the opening day of the week on Sunday, stock markets extended the gaining streak of the previous week, as investors continued their appetite on selective large-cap issues. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 4,758, advancing 27.37 points or 0.57 per cent. DSEX added 70 points in the past five consecutive sessions. Two other indices, however, ended in the red. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 2.87 points to finish at 1,644 and the DSE Shariah Index shed 4.53 to close at 1,077. Gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 353 issues traded, 166 closed higher, 150 ended lower and 37 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. A total number of 144,316 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 242.70 million shares and mutual fund units. The market-cap of the DSE rose slightly to Tk 3,569 billion on Sunday, from Tk 3,567 billion in the previous session. LafargeHolcim Bangladesh topped the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 283 million changing hands, followed by Fortune Shoes, United Finance, Paramount Textile and LankaBangla Finance. Premier Leasing was the best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while Stylecraft was the worst loser, plunging by 56.49 per cent following its price adjustment after record date. The port city’s bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also edged higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—advancing 68 points to close at 14,460 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX –gaining 38 points to finish at 8,782. Here too, gainers beat losers as 129 issues closed higher, 98 ended lower and 21 remained unchanged on the CSE. The port city bourse traded 14.13 million shares and mutual fund units worth nearly Tk 250 million in turnover. Earlier, on the last trading day of the previous week on Thursday, stocks finished almost flat after volatile trading as investors booked some profits with cautious positioning. Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the week continuing the winning streak with marginal gain. The broad index of DSE, DSEX closed at 4731.43 points on Thursday with a gain of 1.08 points or 0.02 per cent. Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and the Shariah index, DSES went up marginally by 1.37 points and 0.18 to settle at 1647.70 and 1082.16 respectively. On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 129,128 trades were executed in Thursday’s trading session with a trading volume of 187.64 million securities. Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 343 issues traded, 162 securities gained price while 131 declined and 50 remained unchanged. The top 10 gainers were Alif Manufacturing, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Bangos, Metro Spinning, Fu-wang Ceramic, Zaheen Spinning, Yeakin Polymer, Family Tex, Paramount Textile and Makson Spinning. Fortune Shoes topped the turnover chart followed by National Tubes, Square Pharma, Paramount Textile, Lankabangla Finance, Kattali Textile, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, Dorin Power, Alif Manufacturing and Premier Bank. The top 10 losers were ML Dying, National Tubes, Power Grid, Silco Pharma, Shepherd Industries, S Alam Cold Rold, Matin Spinning, Meghna Petroleum and ICB Employees Provident Mutual Fund 1 Scheme 1. On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed at green maintaining the winning streak of the previous day. CSCX and CASPI went up by 7.96 points and 11.83 to stand at 8743.36 and 14392.43 respectively. At CSE, a total of 12,236,470 shares and mutual fund of 250 companies were traded, of which 118 issues advanced while 105 declined and 27 issues remained unchanged.
