Int’l Female Oppression Prevention Fortnight being celebrated

Our Correspondent GAIBANDHA, Dec 2: The International Female Oppression Prevention Fortnight-2019 is being celebrated in the district since November 25 with a call to stop sexual violence across the country. To mark the fortnight, SKS Foundation, a local reputed non-governmental organization, has chalked out elaborate programmes under a number of projects including POWER, REECALL, ASSR for EMDG, SAMOTA and OYP ones. The programmes include holding assembly, bringing out rally, pasting posters, hanging banners, and staging drama against the sexual violence against female and child rape. On November 28, a discussion meeting was also held on the premises of Central Shahid Minar of Gaibandha Poura Park marking the fortnight with coordinator, field operation, of SKS Foundation Suruz Ali Sarker in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief guest. The function was also addressed, among others, by cultural personality Jahurul Qaiyum, advocacy coordinator of SKS Foundation Ashraf Alam, human rights worker Anjali Rani Devi, leader of Nari Federation, POWER project, Bithi Akter and woman leader Yaran Begum. The speakers in their speeches said without the participation of the womenfolk the country cannot reach its desired goals and it is quiet impossible to build a happy and prosperous country. "But, sexual harassment and violence including rape incident are taking place in the country repeatedly in recent years making the women folk more worried and panic," they also said. They also demanded of the government to ensure exemplary punishment for all the violators so that they could not dare to commit such types of crimes any further.
