‘Autistic children not burdens to society’

Education Minister Dipu Moni on Sunday said children diagnosed with autism are not burdens to society, rather they have special talents in many cases, reports UNB. Minister passed the remarks while speaking at a seminar organized by National Academy for Autism and Neuro-developmental Disability (NDD) Project on sustainable development of autistic and NDD students. All the autistic children will eventually be brought under mainstream education, she added. Dr Dipu also said the teachers should be enlightened first because many of them lack the skills to handle autistic children's special needs. The government has trained over 30,000 teachers on autism, she added.
