Bus destroys easy bike, truck motorbike, bridal bus dives into pond

News Report A bus rammed an easy bike in northern Panchagarh district Friday, leaving dead all the seven people on board the auto in the fatal accident. Two other people were also killed in another accident in Dhaka's Keraniganj on the day while a bridal-party bus tumbled into a pond in Noakhali's Subarnachar in the evening. An unspecified of casualties were feared in the Noakhali bus plunge, as police, firefighters and locals were carrying out rescue operation, initial media reports said. According to firsthand account all seven easy-bike riders, including its driver, were killed as a bus ran into the smaller vehicle in Magurmari area in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district in the afternoon. The victims were identified as Nurima Begum, 57, Masud, 45, Ajgor Ali, 70, Labu Akter, 27, his wife Mukti, 19, Saiful Islam, 45, and easy-bike driver Rafiq, 45. District Superintendent of Police Md Yousuf Ali told the media that a passenger bus collided head-on with an easy-bike (battery-run three-wheeler) at 1.30pm, leaving five dead on the spot. "Two other people who suffered injuries in the crash were rushed to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead," says the police account of the accident. Police seized the bus but its driver and helper fled. Meanwhile, a motorcyclist and his son were killed as a truck knocked and smashed their motorcycle in Ruhitpur area of Keraniganj of the capital on Friday noon. The motorcyclist's wife --Reshma Akter-was also injured in the accident. The deceased were identified as Asadul Haque Ipu, 40, and his son Sohan, 6. After the accident, pedestrians brought three of them in an injured state to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Later, father and son were declared dead. "Police seized the truck but its driver fled the place after accident," said Shaker Mohammad Jubair, officer-in-charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model police station. Details of the Noakhali bridal tragedy were not immediately known. The bus with around 50 people on board skidded off the road into a pond. (Inputs taken from agencies, media reports)
