Mominul vows to take Ctg to Tier-1 in NCL

Chattogram Division captain Mominul Haque set his target to take the side to the top tier of National Cricket League, inspired by the presence of country's best batsman Tamim Iqbal, reports BSS. The port city which once was a dominating force in cricket continued to be placed at lower tier of NCL, largely due to the absence of their star players. However this year the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque himself got a time to represent their side in the NCL and therefore they set their bar high. "This year our target is to take the side to the Tier-1," Mominul said here on Wednesday. "Our target is to play good cricket. This year we have Tamim Iqbal in our side and also we have some good bowlers. Our team is blessed with some good spinners also. So in that sense I think we have the ability to move to the top tier." Even though Mominul believes that Tamim's performance will be key for the side, he said they won't expect much from the opener who is playing the NCL for the first time since 2015. He in fact said that when Tamim would play well, he would single-handedly win the team. "The expectation is not very high. If the expectation is high, it can create problem. I know his ability. And I know when it's his day, no one needs to contribute as he has the ability to win the game single-handedly," he said of Tamim. At the same time Mominul thinks that the NCL will be a glittering one this time around given the way BCB emphasizes more on it in a bid to strip off the picnic league tag on it. "I think it would be a fascinating tournament. There will be much focus on it. I think it will be a very competitive tournament," he concluded.
