Six die of dengue in two days, 1387 infected

News Desk Six people, including four women, died of dengue in Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Faridpur and Kushtia while 1387 infected were hospitalised across the country in the last 48 hours. The new deaths were recorded on Tuesday night and Wednesday. In the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning 634 were infected. The number of new dengue cases was 753 on Tuesday. In Jashore, two women succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease on Wednesday morning. The deceased were identified as Jahida Begum, 44, wife of Quader of Hanua village, and Jahanara Begum, 35, of Manshimnagar village in Manirampur upazila. Both were hospitalised with dengue on September 9. Dr Arif Ahmed, medical officer of Jessore General Hospital, said they advised Jahida's relatives to shift her to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated. But she could not be moved because of her critical condition and she died around 6:25am, he said. Dr Abdur Rahim, supervisor of the hospital, said Jahanara lost battle to dengue around 4am. With this, six people have so far died of dengue in the district since January, he said. In Khulna, a woman, diagnosed with mosquito-borne disease dengue, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Tuesday night. The deceased, Rahima Begum, 50, was the wife of Rafiqul Islam of Azrail village in Tala upazila of Satkhira. Dr Sailendranath Biswas, resident medical officer of KMCH, said Rahima was hospitalised on Monday with dengue. She died around 11:30pm. So far, 11 people have died of dengue in the district. In Barishal, a schoolboy died of dengue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Wednesday noon. The deceased was identified as Jihad, 14, a Class-VIII student and son of Babul Hawaladar of Laxmipur in Muladi upazila. Asit Bhusan Das, duty doctor at the medicine unit-4, said Jihad was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning. He died while undergoing treatment around 1:30pm. Since January, 78,617 people had been hospitalised with dengue and 75,225 of them were released from hospitals after full recovery. Siddikur Rahman, 55, of Kabirajpur village in Raipur upazila of Madaripur, died of dengue while undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday. Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque said Siddikur was referred to the hospital with dengue from Raipur Upazila Health Complex on Monday noon. Later, he died at the hospital. In Kushtia, Mina Khatun, 25, wife of Raihan Ali of Kazihata village in the upazila, died of dengue at Bheramara Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday morning. Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Nurul Amin said Mina was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex with dengue on Friday and died around 6am Tuesday while undergoing treatment there.
