Make the past your PRESENT

Make the past your PRESENT

New Year felt the kick in his stride. His unusual haste was reasonable for he had to make appearance at the stroke of midnight. Everyone waited with bated breath and every movement on the clock was adding anxiety. He moved ahead confidently with positivity. He stopped mid-stride, when he saw the shadow of a man. When New Year came close, he saw a person with his hands covering his face. It seemed unusual, even the trees were excited. Moment of truth "What makes you so sad?" New Year enquired with concern. "Can I help you?" After lot of prodding and probing, the desolate face was uncovered. "I am Previous Year," he mumbled. "No one pays me any attention to me anymore. Even before the midnight, I have become history." New Year wiped Previous Year's tears. "I think you are mistaken. I am just an occasion, a moment... but you are a milestone my friend." Previous year wiped his eyes, "Don't try to console me with these hollow words." "Oh no….definitely not. I will prove it to you if you give me a little of your precious time," said New Year. They walked through the noisy streets and reached a hospital. They peeped through a window. "Robert you must not forget this date and year. You got a new lease of life with your heart transplant," a doctor told his patient. "How can I ever forget?" asked the patient. Previous Year looked at New Year, smiling. They moved a little further and found a church. As they entered they heard the priest say, "And in the end, we must thank God for giving us a year full of joy, achievement, friendship and happiness." Previous Year felt better. Holding New Year's hand, Previous Year arrived at a hostel. The children were in a discussion. "I think this year was one of the happiest in my life so far. I came first in my class and my father gifted me a beautiful green bicycle." Previous Year's eyes filled with tears of joy. He wanted to hug New Year and thank him for revealing all this to him. New Year said, "Now if you don't mind, I do not want to spoil the party of those waiting for me."
