More JS panels formed

Menon heads body on Social Welfare

A lawmaker from the opposition Jatiya Party has been made head of the parliamentary standing committee on Public Accounts, for the first time. Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday evening unanimously formed the parliamentary watchdog on Parliamentary Accounts with JP MP Rustam Ali Farazi as its chairman. The House also formed nine other parliamentary standing committees on different ministries with two former heavyweight ministers dropped from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's new cabinet as chiefs of two of the panels, report media. Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, who was social welfare minister in Sheikh Hasina's immediate past cabinet, was made chief of parliamentary standing committee on social welfare ministry. Another former minister, Mostafizur Rahman, was made chief of the parliamentary standing committee on primary and mass education ministry. He was the minister of that ministry in Sheikh Hasina's last government from 2014 to 2018. The other JS body formed were: JS body on Road Transport and Bridges ministry headed by ruling Awami League MP Ekabbor Hossain, Water Resources ministry headed by AL MP Romesh Chandra Sen, Disaster Management and Relief ministry headed by AL MP AB Tajul Islam, Power Ministry AL MP and Whip Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, Estimate Committee headed by AL MP Abdus Shahid, Youth and Sports ministry headed by AL MP and former state minister for environment, forest and climate change affairs ministry Abdullah Al Islam Jacob and Civil Aviation Ministry headed by AL MP RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdury. With the formation of 10 standing committees, the parliament so far formed 34 standing committees so far.
