Shaheed Asad Day observed

News Report The nation observed the 50th anniversary of the martyrdom of Shaheed Asad on Sunday in a befitting manner. The people of the country, on this day, recall the sacrifice of the hero of the 1969 mass upsurge that swept away the regime of the autocratic ruler President Ayub Khan. On this day in 1969, student leader Asaduzzaman was shot dead by Pakistani forces near Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) while staging protest against the then Pakistan rullers. Various socio-cultural and political organisations have organised various programmes marking the day. President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued messages marking the day. In separate messages, they paid tributes to the memory of Shaheed Asad and prayed for salvation of his departed soul. National Asad Day observance committee placed wreath at the monument of Shaheed Asad on Dhaka Medical College Hospital premises. Committee Coordinator and General Secretary of Biplobi Workers Party Saiful Huq, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Mujahidul Islam Selim, General Secretary Shah Alam and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) General Secretary Khalequzzaman placed wreaths on behalf their respective organisations. Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote central committee also placed wreath at the monument where General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, Actress Shahanur, M Motasim, among others, were present.
