Training for project beneficiaries on vegetable farming going on

Our Correspondent GAIBANDHA, Jan 19: A 12-day-long Income Generating Activity (IGA) based training for the project beneficiaries on vegetable and fruits farming in modern methods is going on at the hall room of Sadar Upazila Rural Development Office of the town here since January 13. Upazila Rural Development Office has arranged the training under Gaibandha Integrated Rural Poverty Eradication project of Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, office sources said. Upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Uttam Kumar Roy, acting upazila agriculture officer Mosarrof Hossain, upazila rural development officer Jahangir Alam, assistant rural development officer Lipika Rani Basunia and junior accounts officer of the office ATM Rakibuzzaman are conducting the training sessions as the resource persons while project director and also deputy director of BRDB Abdus Sabur was monitoring the training programmes in the district. The trainees are being imparted need base trainings on role of BRDB in poverty alleviation, utility of loan to be provided from the project, importance of vegetable to build up human body, pest attacks in vegetables and pest management, techniques of potato, carrot, pui shak, lal shak, cucumber, bean, ladies finger, cauliflower, and cabbage production properly. After receiving the training successfully, all the trainees would get loan ranging from TK 20,000 to one lakh with nominal interest from the project in phases aimed at helping them be self-reliant through changing their socio-economic conditions, said an official. A total of 30 persons including women of Sadar upazila are taking part in the training that will continue till January 28. Earlier, UNO Uttam Kumar Roy formally inaugurated the training on January 13 as the chief guest. Prior to it, a 12-day long IGA base training on cow rearing and farm management for 30 beneficiaries was also held here in December of 2018 under the project, sources said.
