Joypurhat tragedy for home short circuit

Our Correspondent JOYPURHAT, Nov 8: Eight members of a family were killed in a devastating fire at Aramnagar area in the district town. The deceased were identified as Dulal Hossain, 65, his wife Momena Khatun, 61, his son Abdul Momen,35, granddaughters Brishti, 15, Hashi,13, and Khushi,13 and one and a half year old grandson Noor, and his son's wife Parina Khatun, 33. Eyewitness said, the fire broke out in a three-room house of Dulal at Aramnagar area around 9.30pm on Wednesday. Fire service sources said the fire might have been originated from electric short circuit from rice-cooker and soon engulfed the entire house leaving three people dead on the spot and critically injured five others. The fire grievously injured five people who were rushed to the Adhunik District Hospital from where they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Senior surgery consultant Dr Mafiur Rahman and physician of Emergency department Dr Saiful Islam of the hospital said that the injured have suffered 70 to 75 percent injuries in the fire. Four of them, died on way to the hospital while the Dulal Hossain died at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the DMCH this morning. Awami League (AL) Organizing Secretary and local (Joypur-2 constituency) lawmaker Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon rushed to the place of occurrence and inquired about the matter. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zakir Hossen said that the local administration formed a three-member committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Sonia Binte Tabib for investigating the incident and they will submit report within 72 hours. Each victim's family will get two thousand taka, he added. The injured-Dulal, Hashi, Khushi and Parina and Nur-were taken to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital where doctors referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit.
