Three-day-long char agri, business fair ends in Fulchhari

Our Correspondent GAIBANDHA, Nov 8: A three-day-long Char Agriculture and Business Fair ended on Fulchhari Govt College premises of the district recently with a slogan 'Enriched Char, Developed Country'. In cooperation with Making Market Work for the Jamuna Padma, and Teesta Chars (M4C) project, SKS Foundation, Char Development Research Centre, Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura, and Fullstop Solutions jointly arranged the fair with the financial support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry. The main objective of the fair was to help introduce the char inhabitants with the quality seeds and the latest Agri technologies to produce various standard agri crops on the sandy char land successfully to get desired output against the crops to change their lots economically and to achieve country's food security as well. To create linkage between the crop producers of the chars and the different company men who purchase the quality crops from the farmers for producing products and ensure state run facilities including loan for crops production are other objectives of the fair, sources said. A total of 40 stalls were set up in the fair. A large number of char farmers visited the fair with festive mood and were able to share ideas on various technologies with the owners of the stalls to boost production of agri crops to attain the cherished goals. Earlier, deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah formally inaugurated the fair on November 02 as the chief guest. Upazila chairman Habibur Rahman, UNO Abdul Halim Tolstoy, director of CDRC and project director of M4C Dr. M. Abdur Rashid and government relations adviser, M4C project, Swisscontact Subhash Chandra Roy were present at the event as the special guests. Business development manager of Fullstop Solutions Limited Rakibul Hasan made the welcome speech while executive chief of SKS Foundation Rasel Ahmed Liton presided over the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion deputy speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah the fair would undoubtedly help the char farmers acquire knowledge that would play role to produce quality crops and earn economical profit to change their socio-economic conditions. The deputy speaker also thanked the organizers for arranging such the fair for the char people to take them ahead. Syed Istiaq Ahmed, technical assistant of the project, said M4C is a 5-year project funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives and being implemented by Swisscontact in collaboration with RDA, Bogura that aims to enhance income and employment opportunities for 60,000 char households by facilitating market systems that matter for the poor.
