Copter crashes in Rajshahi

Channel I Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar and his cultural troupe members escaped a close call as their private helicopter crashed in Rajshahi on Thursday (11th October). The Impress Aviation helicopter crashed in Godagari in Rajshahi with Sagar and five others on board moments after takeoff from the frontier upazila. All the passenger ssurvived, some of them with minor injuries. Sagar and four others received first aid as their injuries were ‘minor’, according to a report published by the private broadcaster’s news website. Singer Ferdous Ara and Farzana Brownia, chief of Shornokishoree Network Foundation, were travelling with Sagar on the helicopter. The helicopter came down crashing when it was flying back to Dhaka after a programme of Shornokishoree Network Foundation at a school in Godagari. The Foundation promotes adolescent health. The celebrities went to Anwara Fahim Ziauddin Pilot Girls High School to attend a programme of felicitation for girls having outstanding results. The S2-AHW helicopter took off from the Godagari helipad at 2.35pm. But the pilot lost control and the helicopter crashed beside a nearby under-construction building, the sources said in a spot account of the air crash. Police and firemen rescued the passengers and took them to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office. Sagar, Rafiqul Islam, Tufan Ali and Sumon Ali received first aid. The chopper crashed as the pilot was trying to land again after the engine suffered from technical issues due to inclement weather. The rotor blades touched the ground and the helicopter crashed with a heavy jerk. The pilot seemed to have lost control soon after taking off and the chopper came down quickly The day’s weather was inclement as a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal, nicknamed Titli, swept Bangladesh coasts and crossed into neighbouring Indian states. “We are investigating the reason behind the crash,” said Mahir Uddin, chief engineer of Impress Aviation. Road accidents are on the rise again and at least eight people including a senior government engineer were killed in fatal road accidents in four districts on Thursday. On that day the helicopter also crashed. Fitness of motor vehicles as well as helicopters and planes are now an issue as well as fitness of roads and highways . We need to be especially careful about vehicle fitness and the expertise of drivers and pilots. It was especially lucky that there were no fatalities and serious injuries due to the helicopter crash. Recently there has been the US-Bangla airplane crash, leading to great concern about travel in air in Bangladesh. Let us find out the cause for the helicopter crash being investigated by Impress Aviation-owners of the helicopter — that would that would let us know the safety measures that have to be undertaken and the efficiency requirements of the pilots.
