All-rounder Ziaur Rahman hit a magnificent ton as Khulna Division staged fight back against Barisal Division on the third day of tier-1 second round four-day National Cricket League held at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Wednesday, reports BSS. They scored 349 for 7 at stumps against Barisal Division on the rain-hit third day. The two overnight batsman Ziaur Rahman and Afif Hossain came to bat on the third day and shared 150-run partnership for the seventh wicket stand to take Khulna to a comfortable position after Khulna Division resumed their first innings with overnight score at 199 for 6. The 31-year all rounder Ziaur composed a magnificent 112 runs off 246 balls laced with 13 boundaries and one over-boundary before perished to Mosaddek. Afif provided an ample support to Ziaur with 81 runs and kept his wicket unhurt as rain forced to stop the play. Later, the umpired were compelled to call off the third day’s play. Afif hit eight boundaries and one over-boundary during his 132 balls stay on the crease. Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Sohag Gazi shared two Khulna’s wickets conceding 44 and 100 runs respectively. Earlier, Barisal Division dismissed their first innings at 299. Brief score: Barisal Div. 1st innings – 299 for all, Nuruzzaman 74, Shahriar 41, Gazi 38, Shamsul 30, Monir 22, Rafsan 22, Al Amin 3/67, Razzak 3/121 and Mehedi 2/49. In the day’s another match, Dhaka Division again suffered batting jolt in their second innings as they scored 50 for 2 at stumps against Dhaka Metropolis in the rain-hit third day of four-day 20th National Cricket League (NCL) held on the day at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. Dhaka Division still trailed by 131 runs and they have eight wickets in hand with one more day to go. Saif Hasan was on the crease with 27 runs as the umpire called off the day’s play in the afternoon due to rain and wet outfield. Earlier, Dhaka Metropolis resumed their first innings on the third day with overnight score at 312 for 4 and finally all out for 387, taking by 181 runs healthy first innings lead, in reply to Dhaka Division’s first innings total of 206. Brief score: Dhaka Div first innings- 206 for all, Taibur 88, Rony 30, Mosharraf 27, Arafat 7/ 57 and Ashraful 2/19 Dhaka Div Second innings- 50 for 2, Mazid 18, Saif 27 (batting), Arafat 1/8 and Haidr 1/16 Dhaka Metropolis first innings- 387 for all, Shadman 189, Ashrafil 49, Mehrab 41, Zabid 32 n.o, Salahuddin 4/80, Shahadat 2/64 and Nazmul 2/84. In the day’s other match, rain continued to play spoil sports as the third day’s play between Chittagong and Sylhet Divisions of tier-2 four-day National Cricket League (NCL) also called off without a ball at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar. The day’s called off meant the match is clearly heading for a tame draw with one more day to go after the entire second day’s play washed out due to rain.
