BPL chairman, BCB director Afzalur no more

Sports Desk BPL chairman and BCB director Afzalur Rahman Sinha died at the Gleneagles Global Hospital in Chennai on Wednesday. He was 68 and is survived by his wife, son and daughter. A Freedom Fighter in Bangladesh's war of independence in 1971, Sinha had been undergoing treatment for liver cancer and kidney disease in Singapore and Thailand. He was a well-acknowledged financier and sports organiser, who joined the BCB in 1998 and later became chairman of its finance committee. Sinha was also president of Surjo Tarun, a Dhaka league side with whom he has worked with for two decades. He had also chaired Acme Laboratories; a leading pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expresses deep sadness at the passing away of Board Member Afzalur Rahman Sinha. Mr Sinha, a Freedom Fighter, was elected to the BCB in 1998 and had successfully served in many capacities including that of the Board's Treasurer. The first namaz-e-janaza of Afzalur Rahman Sinha will be held at the Acme Corporate Office in Kalyanpur, Dhaka at 08h00 today (Friday). The body of Mr Sinha, who breathed his last at the Gleneagles Global Hospital in Chennai, India on Wednesday evening, will then be brought to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur where the second namaz-e-janaza has been scheduled at 09h00. The third namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Dhaka Club at 10h30. He will be buried at his ancestral home in Bikrampur after Juma prayers where the final namaz-e-janaza will be performed.
