Nine killed in road crashes across country

News Desk At least nine people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Cumilla, Jhenaidah , Chapainawabganj, Natore and Tangail districts on Saturday. In Cumilla, two people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus overturned on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Ghinagazi area of Chauddagram upazila early Saturday. The deceased were identified as Swapan Kumar Sutradhar, son of Bancharaz Sutradhar, hailing from Dighunia village of Faridpur district and Asad Mallik, hailing from Raghunathpur village in Pabna district. Abul Hossain, sub-inspector of Miabazar highway police, said the Faridpur-bound bus overturned on the highway at 3 am as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the duo dead on the spot and 20 others injured. In Jhenidah, a man was killed as a microbus hit him in Hatgopalpur area of Sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Shahin Hossain, 46, son of GolamTahur Shah, a resident of Pobhati village. AbdurRouf, sub-station officer of Jhenidah fire service, said that the accident took place around 7am when the Jhenidah-bound microbus hit Shahin around 7am, leaving him dead on the spot. In Chapainawabganj, two motorcyclists were killed as the biker lost control over the wheels while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a truck at Dhobpur in Shibganj upazila on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Mukul Reza, 36, son of Krishnachandrapur village in Shibganj upazila, and Bahadur, son of Montaj Ali of Trimohoni village in the same upazila. Sub-inspector Jewel of Shibganj Police Station said the accident took place as the biker skidded off the road when trying to provide side to a speedy truck on Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid Highway at Dhobpur leaving both of them dead on the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue for autopsy, he added. In Natore, two people were killed and several others injured as a passenger bus and truck collided in Dairapara area in between Baraigram and Lalpur upazilas on Saturday evening. The identities of the deceased could not be known yet. In Tangail, an underage biker and his pillion were killed after the bike that they rode crashed into a road side tree in Amtali Bazar area in Madhupur upazila of Tangail on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Arif, 15, son of one Mojibur Rahman of Ashra village and Sajib, 14, son of one Suruj Mia of the same village.
