Bangladesh China good friends

Bangladesh China good friends

After five months here, I have witnessed myself the vigor in the development of China-Bangladesh relations, especially the attention from media friends. So the purpose for today's event is to have some exchanges with you on issues of common concerns, like the development of our bilateral relations. Hopefully, it can lead to a deeper understanding on China and China-Bangladesh relations by the general public in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a good neighbor and a good friend to China. Our two peoples had started friendly exchanges thousands of years ago. In recent years, China-Bangladesh relationship has been promoted onto a fast track, especially after the successful state visit of president Xi Jinping to Bangladesh in October, 2016, when our bilateral relationship was elevated to a Strategic Partnership of Cooperation, thus starting a new chapter in the development of our bilateral ties. Now our relations are facing unprecedented opportunities for cooperation, which provides a favorable environment and external conditions for media cooperation between the 2 countries. Against the backdrop of jointly building the Strategic Partnership of Cooperation in the new era, I'd like to propose 4 suggestions for our media cooperation. First, to actively build a communication mechanism and deepen bilateral media cooperation. I hope the media from the 2 countries could play a leading role to promote for the establishment of a regular communication mechanism between relevant government authorities and major media associations, as well as regular visits and exchanges between them and media professionals at all levels. I also hope you could help set the general direction for cooperation, enhance cooperation between media associations, and promote dialogues between media professionals. Based on win-win cooperation on an equal footing, by establishing the communication mechanism, the media from 2 sides will strengthen their policy connectivity, encourage interactions and cooperation, shoulder the social responsibility to make objective and honest reports, and thus become the bridge for enhancing the mutual trust and concerted collaborations between China and Bangladesh. I wish to point out that under the "Belt and Road" initiative, we have huge potential for media cooperation. In the 2018 Belt and Road Journalist Forum, it was agreed that a secretariat would be set up under All-China Journalists' Association and a Belt and Road Journalist coalition will be established. Hopefully, under the cooperation framework of this forum, there could be deeper cooperation between our media on content exchange, new contribution, policy research, data sharing, technical collaboration etc., so that the development demands could be met from both sides. Bangladeshi media are highly welcome to participate in this forum and join the coalition. Second, to focus on integration and innovation to bring media cooperation to a higher level. As media in the new era features global communication and employs digital communic-ation approaches, we should promote media integration and technical innovation, fully utilize the advantages of social media, and highlight the importance of social network and real-time communication tools, in order to build a digital silk road connecting China and Bangladesh. I hope media from both countries can explore different forms of cooperation and bring it to a higher level in a creative fashion. We can create more platforms for media communication through organizing various dialog-ues with concrete agendas, sharing news, information and technical innovation outcomes, advancing com-munications among journ-alists, as well as carrying out more civil exchanges and public diplomacy. It's worth mentioning that Chinese and Bangladeshi media have already begun to explore effective ways for cooperation. For example, China's Yunnan Daily and the Independent are cooperating in a way that the Independent now publishes a whole page of the Yunnan Daily in its weekly issue. China Radio International(CRI) has also signed long-term agreements with Ourtime and RTV respectively this year, and it's contributing regularly to Look@me magazine. Now our national news agency, Xinhua and the CRI have set up news stations in Dhaka, journalists from the Indian news stations of China Central Television and People's Daily also visit Bangladesh from time to time. The Chinese embassy will continue to encourage and support this kind of close and practical cooperation, and serve as an intermediary for further media cooperation. We will also provide relevant facilitations and help, in order to build an international communication channel, and to improve the communication ability in this omnimedia era. Third, to build a bridge of friendship and expand exchanges and mutual learning between China Bangladesh media. Media is the bond for increasing mutual trust and deepening communication. I hope Chinese and Bangladeshi media could have frequent visits and extensive exchanges with each other, and further advance our information sharing. As an old Chinese saying goes, "it is wise to hear opinions from different sides, while blinding to listen to only one side." There are also 2 other proverbs that stress the importance of field research, one is "one eye witness is better than 10 hearsays", and the other is "what you see is more reliable than what you hear". With the help and coordination of the Chinese embassy, there is a clear increase in mutual media visits between the 2 countries. In the past few years, there have been more than a hundred media professionals who visited China and wrote positive and high-quality reports about China after they came back. I hope there will be more media friends from Bangladesh who will travel to China and get into close touch with the Chinese people. They will understand China in a deeper and more comprehensive way by seeing for themselves the changes and developments taking place in China, and feeling the hospitality and friendliness of the Chinese people. And then they can introduce the friendly, open-minded, diligent and smart Chinese people to Bangladeshi people, and present a real, lively and ever-changing Chinese society in a comprehensive way. Particularly, I hope the media from both sides could pay more attention to the building of a community of shared future for mankind, and to the joint contributions to a sustainable and peaceful world which is secure, prosperous, open, inclusive, clean and beautiful, which transcends the old ideas of national conflicts, cold war mindset and zero-sum game. It requires objective and rational journalism, which reports on the social and economic progress in China and Bangladesh, and gives good narratives to the development and friendship between the 2 countries. I hope all of you can truly become the bridge for friendly communication, the bond that links our friendship, and the envoy for enhancing mutual learning. Fourth, to further share development opportunities and enrich the forms of media cooperation. I hope the media from both countries could duly fulfill your missions and work together to seize the opportunities to enrich cooperation forms and bring cooperation to higher levels. To facilitate more frequent communications, we will encourage more Chinese media to set up news stations here, support them to report on the development of Bangladesh in a timely fashion, and enhance Chinese people's understanding and knowledge on China-Bangladesh friendship. As the media cooperation deepens, we also hope to see Bangladeshi news stations set up in China, which could give objective and meaningful reports on China, so as to deepen our media cooperation and the trust between our people. The achievements made in the development of China-Bangladesh relations are inseparable from the efforts of the media community. Thank you for your close attention to the China-Bangladesh relations and your support for the Chinese embassy. Let's work together towards a common goal. Let's become the loudspeaker for China-Bangladesh relations, the seed drill for China-Bangladesh friendship, and the propeller for China-Bangladesh cooperation. Together we shall start a new chapter in our common development process. Dhonnobud! Zhang Zuo is the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh. He made the speech at a dialogue on the China-Bangladesh Media Cooperation recently.
