Law minister says

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday said proposed 'Digital Security Act' will be people and media friendly and it is likely to be passed in the next session of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), reports BSS. "I would like to say clearly that the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not enact any law that can thwart freedom of speech and freedom of media mentioned in the constitution given by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he said while talking to journalist leaders on the proposed law at the secretariat. The law minister said the proposed act is now being scrutinized by the parliamentary standing committee, adding, "We are holding talks with the journalist leaders frequently to make the law people friendly. Journalist leaders have also taken part twice in the standing committee meeting." "We will discuss the recommendations made by the journalist leaders at the standing committee meeting and the committee will finalize the act based on the discussions. We may hold another meeting with journalists before floating the proposed act in the JS for passing," Huq said. The Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) vice-president Mozammel Babu were present on the occasion, among others.
