Kim-Trump summit strikes ‘historic’ deal

A much-orchestrated historic summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un on Tuesday 12th June culminated in a swap of ‘security guarantee’ for complete denuclearization against the backdrop of ‘war games’. Both the summit leaders sealed the deal they signed at the meet, held halfway their routes in Singapore, with panegyrics on what their one-one-one and delegation-level brainstorming yielded not only for the two sides but also for the region and the world at large. US President Donald Trrump hailed his summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un as a very great day in the history of the world We both want to do something. Nearly five hours of unprecedented and surreal talks between the two heads of state culminated with fulsome declarations of a new friendship. For Trump, that amounted to a triumphant outcome in his extraordinary gamble with the recalcitrant leader of North Korea. But there were scant details on what new commitments had been secured from Kim, even as Trump announced he would end the regular military exercises the US conducts with South Korea-the war-separated other half of the Korean peninsula. Whether nuclear disarmament is indeed the final outcome of Tuesday’s summit won’t be known for years, if not decades. But the dramatic act of extending his hand to one of America’s longtime adversaries will forever illustrate Trump’s gut-driven, norm-shattering tenure. The document he and Kim signed says the North Korean leader “reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” In exchange, Trump agreed to “provide security guarantees” to North Korea. Kim’s commitments did not appear to go beyond what he already pledged to do in April when he met South Korean President Moon Jae-in along their countries’ border. The main points of the agreement include North Korea’s commitment towards a complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. The US is committed to provide security guarantees to North Korea. US and North Korea commit to commit to establish new relationships. The two–sided joint efforts to build lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula .Both sides commit to recovering of US soldiers who died in North Korea At the conclusion of the summit, Trump hailed the talks as a historic, and personal, achievement. Senior journalist Reazuddin Ahmed of Bangladesh opined that Chinese President XI Jinping had a leading role in turning foes into friends . With both leaders coming to a rapprochement , if not entente , it is perhaps not too much to suggest that strong foundation has been laid for resolving the outstanding issues between both sides, and that the summit cam be considered to be a good first step that may lead to the denuclearization of the world
