Purnima joins as PO of Tarana

Purnima Sheel, a tortured victim by BNP-Jamaat men during the 2001 post-election violence, Thursday joined as personal officer (PO) to State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, reports BSS. Tarana Halim appointed Purnima as her PO on Wednesday. After joining the job, Purnima, in an interview, told BSS that she would like to represent herself as a symbol of ‘turning around woman’ breaking the clutches of social taboo that stands on way to progress of women in the society. Urging all women to turn around, she said, “My outlook is different...I would like to move forward with courage and want to stand beside the repressed women.” Expressing her gratuity to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and State Minister Tarana Halim, Purnima said, “I want to follow the footsteps of Maa-moni (Sheikh Hasina) and want to get a government job at my own qualification.” She said, “Prime Minister Maa-moni had always extended her hands of protecting me after the barbaric incident in 2001 and also helped me a lot alongside my education.” “I want to work for the repressed women and also to provide them legal assistance,” she added. Purniam, daughter of Anil Sheel who hailed from Sirajganj, was tortured on October 8, 2001.
