Hathura's Lankan team in city to play tri- series

Chandika Hathurusingha's Sri Lankan team arrived in the capital on Saturday to play against hosts Bangladesh and visiting Zimbabwe in the seven-match Tri-nation series beginning at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on January 15, reports UNB. Angelo Mathews-led 16-man Sri Lanka cricket team landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:50 am. The other team of the tri-nation series, Graeme Cremer-led a 15-member Zimbabwe reached the capital earlier on Friday to play the double league basis ODI series where each side will face one another twice before the final. The top two teams of the league will play the final on January 27. Bangladesh will meet Zimbabwe in the inaugural match on January 15, face Sri Lanka on January 19 and play Zimbabwe again on January 23 before taking on Sri Lanka on January 25. After the tri-series, Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka for two-match Test series in Chittagong and Dhaka. The first Test will be played from January 31 to February 4 and the second match from February 8 to 12. Sri Lanka's tour will end with two T20Is-the first one on February 15 in Dhaka and the second one on February 18 in Sylhet. Fixture of Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh: 1st Test: January 31-February 4, Chittagong; 2nd Test: February 8-12, Dhaka; 1st T20I: February 15, Dhaka; 2nd T20I: February 18, Sylhet Earlier Sri Lankan Cricket Board on Saturday announced a 16-member strong and dynamic Test squad under the newly appointed head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, including batsmen Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka. After the tri-nation ODI series involving Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka here, the Island nation will play a two-match Test series against the Tigers beginning on January 31 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city of Chittagong. The second Test match will be held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from February 8 to 12. Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dushmantha Chameera, Akila Dananjaya and Lahiru Kumara were included in the Hathurusingha's Test squad dropping Vishwa Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dasun Shanaka and Lahiru Thirimanne. In the Test team, the board gave an emphasis that paced Dushmantha Chameera and 20-year-old Lahiru Kumara being picked. But it is the first-time selection of unorthodox off-spinner Akila Dananjaya that is the strongest indication that the selectors and new coach are looking at taking Sri Lanka's attack in a new direction. Alongside the likes of Chameera, Kumara and Dananjaya are more experienced hands. Suranga Lakmal has been rewarded for a good 2017 with the team's vice-captaincy. Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera head up the spin department, with left-arm wristspinner Lakshan Sandakan also included. Right-arm seam bowler Lahiru Gamage has been picked as well. There are notable omissions. Nuwan Pradeep has been left out, with the selectors seemingly now considering him for limited-overs duties alone, due largely to his propensity to pick up injuries in Test cricket. Allrounder Dasun Shanaka, who had some success with the ball against India, has been dropped, as has left-arm quick Vishwa Fernando. That batsmen Lahiru Thirimanne and Sadeera Samarawickrama were also dropped is little surprise, given their lack of runs in India, but more unexpected is the omission of allrounder Asela Gunaratne, and batsman Kusal Perera - both of whom are in the ODI squad. Gunathilaka has been chosen, however - perhaps on potential. It is possible he will open the batting alongside Karunaratne. Zimbabwe ODI squad: Hamilton Masakadza, Solomon Mire, Craig Ervine, Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Peter Moor, Malcolm Waller, Graeme Cremer (captain), Ryan Murray (wk), Tendai Chisoro, Brandon Mavuta, Blessing Muzarabani, Christopher Mpofu, Tendai Chatara and Kyle Jarvis. Bangladesh squad for the 1st 2-ODI: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Nasir Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Mohammad Mithun, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Abul Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Saifuddin and Sunzamul Islam. Sri Lanka Test squad: Dinesh Chandimal (Captain), Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo 'I am playing amazing tennis again and feeling just great,' said Kerber, who was ranked No 1 this time last year but has slumped to 22nd, on wtatennis.com.
