State minister visits erosion-hit areas of Narsingdi

Our Correspondent NARSINGDI, Sept 12: State Minister for Water Resources Lt Colonel (Retd) Nazrul Islam Hiro (Birpratik), MP said the government is now working relentlessly for giving help to the flood and erosion hit people. The minister said this on Sunday in Karimpur char union of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila while he was visiting erosion affected village of Shutkikanda here. Last week sudden Meghna erosion devoured as many as 250 houses at Shutkikanda village of Karimpur union under Narsingdi Sadar upazila. The minister distributed cash among the erosion affected people from his own fund and assured all the erosion-hit people of government help including 30 kg rice, CI sheet, saree, lungi for each family. The minister also said the government allocated Tk 15.19 cr for constructing embankment in the area; but due to recent floods and natural disaster in the country, the work could not be started. He said the embankment work will start in a short time. He directed the Water Development Board to take necessary measures to check the river erosion. Mayor of Narsingdi Pourashava Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Organising Secretary of District Awami League Waliur Rahman Azim, Chairman of Karimpur Union Mohammad Haris Miah. Chairman of Nazarpur union Badal Saker and Chairman of Alokbali union Delwar Hossain Dipu and General Secretary of Karimpur Union Awami League Jahangir Alam also accompanied the Minister. Earlier, the Minister laid the foundation stone of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Parishad Complex at Sadar Upazila Parishad Ground.
