Khulna Journolists demand 9th wage board

KHULNA, April 21: Journalist leaders here on Thursday demanded the Ninth Wage Board immediately as the economic condition became intolerable due to price hike of essential items and house rent after declaration of new pay-scale for the government officers and employees, reports BSS. On the last day of three day long three hours pen down programme, called by BFUJ, journalists' leaders of Khulna said that the government officials and journalists had been enjoying almost same facilities regarding salaries and other benefits for long. They regretted that after announcement of last pay-scale, the journalist community has gone far behind in terms of salaries and benefits than the government officials. The leaders said "The issue is also disgraceful for journalists in respect of social status". They added that journalists serve the nation through their services in the media not for mere bread and butter rather for social commitments. Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) organized the pen down programme at Khulna Press Club premises with its president S M Zahid Hossain in the chair. Former KUJ Presidents Wadudur Rahman Panna, Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Sheikh Abu Hassan, Anwarul Islam Kazol, General Secretary Shah Alam, ex-General secretary Md. Shaheb Ali, Mahbub Alam Sohag, Humayun Kabir, Mostofa Zamal Poplu, Debnath Ranajit, Rashedul Ahsan Bablu, among others, spoke on the occasion. Another report adds: Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman recently said late President Zillur Rahman had dedicated his life to welfare of the Bangalee Nation. Terming the late President as one of the architects of Bangladesh Awami League, the minister said his ideology encouraged the leaders and activists of the party for several decades ahead."We still feel his absence," he added. The minister was addressing a commemoration meeting at the Awami League Office here on Monday as the chief guest marking the fourth death anniversary of late President Zillur Rahman. Khulna City AL organized the meeting with its president Talukder Abdul Khaleque,MP, in the chair. Conducted by Office secretary Mahbub Alam Sohag, City Unit General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizan, MP, among others, spoke the meeting. Leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate organizations were also present. Zillur Rahman played a vital role after arresting of AL president Sheikh Hasina during the last caretaker government regime, he said, adding that every AL men should follows the life sketch of Zillur Rahman. The 19th president of Bangladesh, Zillur Rahman breathed his last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on March 20 in 2013.
