Info secretary calls for change to implement integrity strategy

Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed on Thursday underpinned the need for changing "ourselves" and having integrity to implement the National Integrity Strategy, reports BSS. "Having integrity means being a person of good character," he said, speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a daylong workshop on integrity in the city. Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) organized the workshop titled "National Integrity Strategy Implementation" for its officials of all levels at the PIB conference room. PIB Director Md. Shah Alamgir chaired the inaugural function, which was also addressed by Md. Zakir Hossain, PIB deputy director (current charge) and coordinator of the workshop. Martuza Ahmed said none can be a person of good character only by performing religious activities. Honesty, morality, and dutifulness are needed to this end, he added. Referring to Islam he said, "In our religion, it is said that performing one's duties on time with integrity is an 'ebadat' (worship). So, one who will perform his/her duty on time, will do 'ebatat' on the one side and implement the Integrity Strategy on the other side". The secretary stressed on implementation of Integrity Strategy by PIB officials themselves to reflect it in the mass media. Martuza said awareness about integrity among the common people could ensure accountability and reduce corruption. A total of 110 PIB officials took part in the workshop, which was held with four sessions.
