Shahanaj becomes one of world's best teachers

A Bangladesh female primary school teacher has been recognized as one of the best teachers in the world in a global forum held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week, according to a handout of the Ministry of Education available here on Monday, reports BSS. Shahanaj Parvin's name was put in the world's best 50 teachers list at the 5th Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) held in Dubai, where Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid was in attendance, the handout said without elaboration. Sources said here Shahanaj is a teacher of Sherpur Model Government Primary School. She has also won Sherpur Upazila Best Teachers Award in 2010 and the Best National Female Primary School Teacher award in 2013. Texts from the Global Teachers Prize 2017 website say Shahanaj has retained her position in the list because of her digital teaching method that has vastly reduced school dropouts. She used her teaching method focused on technology and multi-media applications. The GESF said the world's best teachers together would be awarded a million-dollar equivalent Global Teachers Prize 2017 and Shahanaj has a plan to develop a fund for poor students and children with disabilities from her prize money. Shahanaz, a post-graduate in Islamic History and Culture, was born in Darigatha village in Sherpur Upazila and saw how girls were discouraged from receiving education, and endured insults from neighbors, as well as faced economic hardship during her childhood.
