News Special Commodity market largely continues to defy government interventions through emergency import and drive against price fixing by oligopolies. High-quality local onions were seen selling up to Tk 180 per kilogram in Dhaka's retail markets Thursday while imports, mostly tennis ball-like in size, claimed between Tk 140 and 150 a kg. Other spices are pricey, too. And vegetables were no exception. The kitchen items were found in short supply and too costly to touch for the commoners in this prime time of their cultivation in oncoming winter.
